Sun Frock Sew-Along Round up!

Now that everyone has had a chance to sew up their frocks, I am very pleased to show you all the results!

First finished (before me even) was the delightful Vicki from Rayon Dreams in a cheesecake world who is also the lady behind the wonderful Those Darn Sew and Sews facebook group. She made this version out of a very cute arrow print fabric and chose to opt for a zipper closure in back for this first dress, then make a second one with the button option. You can read about the arrow print dress on her blog here.

For Vicki's second frock she went with a lovely floral fabric that was very reminiscent of the prints found on vintage feedsacks

Second speediest to finish was the lovely Dee, who had us all going crazy over her beautiful self covered buttons.

Dee also chose to make a second frock out of a cheerful Christmas print cotton, as her Christmas dress for this year (and who doesn't love a good Christmas dress?)

As the deadline loomed closer, more and more frocks were getting sewn up, and we saw progress photos of quite a few in our sew-along facebook group. It was quite exciting to see all the different colour/print combos being used, all over the world, from my humble little graded pattern.

The rest of the frocks, in no particular order:

Bianca from Vintage on Tap made a divine version in a muted pink satin which she blogged about here

And she even attempted bound button holes! Didn't they turn out fab?

Andrea made a picture perfect frock using a lovely floral fabric with contrast piping detail.

Leila didn't think she would get any wear out of a sun frock as it is winter where she lives, so she used the skirt and pocket pattern pieces to make this luxurious velvet skirt.

Kacy of Miss Kacy Sews made a gorgeous version in a aqua/teal polka dot fabric! She decided to take hers in a bit as she prefers her dresses a bit more figure hugging.

Jenna really showed off and altered hers to have buttons all the way down one side. To make this even more impressive, this was her first time sewing a dress!

Kate from Vintage in a Modern World, braved the cold Canada weather and snapped these photos of her lovely floral frock. Everything except the trim came from her stash, so it's a double win!

Paula made this cute version with a lovely ric rac accent near the hemline that had us all swooning.

Kristy-Rae made hers using a vintage sheet, and even had enough left over for her daughter to make herself a crop top as well!

Sarah rocked this cool colour combination, that has me looking at the yellow fabrics in my stash in a whole new way.

Alyssa changed her skirt pieces to make the most of this stunning Hawaiian border print fabric she was lucky enough to be given by her Aunt

Elinor went for block colours with her dress and finished up with this fierce purple creation.

Triselda accomplished many firsts with this pattern, it was her first go at sewing a dress, first buttonholes and first vintage pattern. She used a thrifted floral Vintage sheet for fabric and vintage lace for the trim, which has resulted in this absolutely charming dress

Wenche is in Norway and says it's too dark and cold to wear her dress out for pictures, but here it is on her mannequin. Made from an adorable red printed cotton, I just love that she used polka dot fabric for the piping! Plus she even used piping int he straps.

Maxine got her photo done in the nick of time. She straightened the edge of the trim (eliminating those tricky scallops) and used a tie made of a tube of the same fabric to bring in the waist for this cute look.

A bunch of girls involved in the sew-along have now decided to have an informal shirtwaister sew-along, the group for which can be found here if you wish to join. I am hoping to have time to sew a pink and white gingham for myself in the new year

And now that the Sew-Along has officially ended, I'm sorry to say I will not be sending out the pattern for free anymore. But never fear, I have listed it in my Etsy Shop for a measly US$2! So if you have been waiting to see everyone else's creations before getting the pattern for yourself, you can find it here

Also, as a reward to all those who finished their dress before the extended deadline of December 14th, I am halfway through grading up and scanning in another pattern for them all to have for free. This time one that is a bit more seasonally appropriate for my friends in colder climates, even if it would be too warm to wear here this time of year. When the PDF is finished I will also have it listed on Etsy, also for the low low price of US$2! Due to how busy this time of year can be, I may not get the pattern completed until after Christmas.

And now I really must get back to sewing Christmas presents and attempting to clean the house up ready for having visitors over.
